Purpose & Connection

Why purpose and connection sit at the heart of learning at CLIMB, our daily Serotonin Starts, and a hands-on sewing skills session.

01Purpose & Connection

Purpose and Connection are central to learning. We want youngsters to understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters and how it connects to their lives, others and the wider world.

The Qur'an encourages us to observe, think and reflect, reminding us that we were not created without purpose. This is reflected in the teaching of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who used questions, real-life examples and visual demonstrations to connect new ideas to experiences people already understood. His approach moved learners from knowledge to connection, reflection and action — a principle we aim to embed across CLIMB.

02Serotonin Starts

Connection also means developing relationships and a sense of belonging. Our daily Serotonin Starts give youngsters 30 minutes each morning to socialise, play board games and engage positively with their peers before formal learning begins.

Beyond being enjoyable, these activities develop communication, problem-solving, patience, cooperation and resilience. Most importantly, they give youngsters time to connect, settle and begin the day feeling part of the CLIMB community and ready to learn.

03Skills: Learning to Sew

Another way Purpose and Connection are practically embedded at CLIMB is through our Skills Sessions, where youngsters connect their learning to everyday life and develop greater independence. This week, youngsters enjoyed a practical sewing session, learning simple stitches and how to sew buttons onto fabric.

Beyond learning a useful life skill, the activity developed patience, concentration, fine motor skills and coordination, while encouraging youngsters to follow instructions, solve problems and persevere when something did not go to plan. Most importantly, the session gave learning a clear purpose. Youngsters could immediately see why the skill was useful and how it connected to real-life situations.

Completing something independently also created a genuine sense of achievement, reinforcing our belief that education should equip youngsters not only with academic knowledge, but with the skills, confidence and character to navigate everyday life.
